Dedicated to the Japanese aesthetic, we create environments and experiences that indulge the senses, provoke the intellect, stir the heart and inspire engagement with beauty and art as intimate partners in our everyday lives.

    PRINCIPLES

Lesley Kehoe Galleries represents artists and encourages the collection of their art, but even more than that we are about engagement of the senses and cultivation of conoisseurship.

Our events and experiences offer opportunities to engage with the fantasy, romance and intrigue that accompanies the discovery of one's own taste amidst contemplation of cultural nuance and artistic expression.

We see art as universal and beauty its most essential component.

Our collections express the infinite scope of the cultural & intellectual sophistication, beauty and refinement of the Japanese aesthetic.

We work to overcome inbuilt prejudices of what art is, who may access it and which culture monopolizes it.

In an attempt to defy externally imposed boundaries of culture, period, medium, and academic definition, when we speak of the Japanese aesthetic we do not restrict ourselves culturally or geographically. We explore universal principles that, to our knowledge and sensibilities, are often best expressed by Japanese culture.

In the art and artists we represent, we seek mastery of material and technique, originality and an articulated artistic identity and concept.

We look for works that evoke passion and awe, that contribute something beyond the everyday. We admire both a growth from, and reinterpretation of, tradition and the revolutionary spirit that seeks to create anew.

Our commitment is to inspire engagement with art as an intimate partner in our everyday lives.

We esteem the Japanese aesthetic of 用の美 // yō no bi the beauty of function. In contrast to the distinction imposed by the western perspective between fine and functional/ decorative art, the Japanese aesthetic of yō no bi imbues everyday experiences, spaces and objects with artistry, functionality and beauty.
